Wednesday Business

So. Funny story. I found my wallet.

I had this whole post planned for today detailing the hell that is the DMV since I spent 5 hours, two good cries, and close to $300 there yesterday. Then, I decided to stop by the place I was at on Friday since I was in the neighborhood last night, and despite having called them a million times and left a few messages, I had never talked to an actual person. Turns out they had my entire wallet with everything still in it. So instead of writing a post about what a nightmare the DMV is, I’ll just leave it with what an idiot I am…

And, a few random announcements:

1.) Reader Meet Up

    • Who: You! If you’re in the DC area. Open to everyone and anyone who is a reader or blogger.
    • What: Food and Fro-Yo
    • Where: Sweet Green Dupont, 1512 Connecticut Avenue
    • Why: I thought it would be fun to do an in person meet up!
    • When: Next Tuesday, October 25, 6-8pm

Don’t feel obligated to come for the whole time – you can just stop by for a little if you want to, but of course you’re welcome to come for the whole time, too! I will be sending an evite out later today for RSVPs and if you don’t get it and want to come, email me!

2.) Half Marathon Plans

I signed up for a half marathon and I’m so excited… the DC Rock n Roll Half (formerly the National Half) in March 2012. Bring it on!

3.) Leader Training

I can’t BELIEVE I leave for training to be a Leader for Weight Watchers.. tomorrow!!! Ahhh I’m so excited. I’ve wanted to be a Leader for as long as I can remember (slash was on track to do so) and I can’t believe it’s really happening!

4.) Call for Questions

I’m planning to do a Q&A post, so if you have any questions you want me to address, leave them in the comments or email me!

Have you ever found something you thought was lost?

Hi Jennifer! Thank you for asking. He’s actually doing much, much better and just went home from the hospital yesterday. He’s back on oxygen when he sleeps, but things are looking up!

haha oh man this definitely happened to me my sophomore year in college. I had drank ALOT and on my way home realized I had lost my wallet. I was so drunk and irrational that I sobbed and sobbed and sobbed, plus complained about how much money it would cost me to replace everything. I recounted my steps multiple times (sobbing all the way) and finally by chance happened upon it on the sidewalk (after searching for 2+ hours). My poor boyfriend (now fiance) was stuck with me the whole way. Surprised he didn’t leave my ass right then! lol!

Wow you’re so lucky you stumbled into it on the side walk! I looked up and down the street expecting it to be there, but it was behind the bar the whole time. What a pain in the butt!!

Hi beth! I am really interested in hearing about your leader training for WW!! I am about 16-18 lbs from goal (haven’t decided on official goal!) but I couldn’t figure out how to email you, so this works! I have contemplated applying to be a leader as well when I reach lifetime so if you have any tips or things that you can share (I know a lot is hushhush!), I would really appreciate it! Thanks, Beth, good luck with training! Annie (MN follower :))

Hey Annie! I’ll be sure to share as much as I can about leader training once I’m back from Chicago, and I’ve been working as a receptionist since March of this year… it’s pretty awesome! Email me at bethsjourneyblog@gmail.com with any specific questions you may have!

That’s awesome about your wallet! Have fun at WW leader training and I can’t wait to hear more about it. My question would be ww-related: why did I lose almost 5 pounds my first week on WW, but then go on to gain steadily the 3 weeks after, despite getting all my GHG, exercising lots, and staying within my points plus budget (I know you don’t know all the answers/situation, but just wondering if you have any insight/tips/advice).

I saw your email! I’m going to get to responding to it soon I promise. I can understand how that would be super frustrating though, but I think you might be spot on with the overload on fruits and veggies. If you make your fruits and veggies into a recipe in the tracker, you can see how many pointsplus it would be if they weren’t free. Do that and see how many “pointsplus” you’re eating a day of them and let me know!

Ok….sorry to bug you! I guess I’m just struggling with when do I make what I throw together as a meal a “recipe” (and include all the additional points plus), or just count the foods individually (and have a lower value). I think one good question for the q and a though would be about any obstacles/plateaus you faced on WW, and how you overcame them.

I”m so happy to you found your wallet! I wanted to tell you about my lost wallet story after yesterday’s post but since it had a happy ending, i thought it might be a little sad since you thought yours was gone. Anyway, I lost my wallet in London a few years ago. I realized it when I got to the airport and went to search for it so I could buy a cup of coffee. The wallet was no where to be found and my plane was boarding in 15 minutes. My friend and I backtracked our steps and looked everywhere but we couldn’t get back on the tube to re-trace all the steps from that morning. I was crying and beyond miserable. Fortunately I had my passport still so getting back home wasn’t an issue. I cried the whole way home (the flight attendants were super nice they even told the captain and he put a word in to the airport people to inform the plane if it turned up). Six hours later we landed in Dulles and no call had come in. When i got to work the next day I went to the tube website and filled out a lost and found form. Never in a million years thinking that someone would return my wallet. I was devistated not only because of allt he stuff that was in there butthe wallet had been a college graduation present and it was a Louis Vuitton wallet, that at age 24, i could never afford to replace. Three weeks later (new wallet and new cards already in hand) I got an e-mail from the tube people saying that someone had turned in my wallet!!!!!!! I couldn’t believe it. My friend in London picked it up and mailed it to me. Everything was still in it!!!!

Wow that is SO awesome that you got it back!!! Especially since it was sentimental for you, that is great.

When I got mine back, I realized I had my passport and social security card in there, plus my ID, a checkbook, and all my credit cards. It literally would have been the identity stealing jackpot if someone had found it… i am so lucky!

I find stuff that I thought was lost almost daily. I’ve turned into my mother… I have that whole “Oh my god where is my purse? Where is it?” and I freak and my boyfriend tells me to calm down and we search for it forever only to realize it is in some random place in our house. I am a crazy lady! I’ve never really lost something, though. *knockonwood*

Have fun at training! Also, did you finish the Hunger Games series? Would love to hear what you thought!

I am half way through the last book.. I will definitely finish it this weekend and will keep you posted! So far, I loveeeeee it.

Hey hey…glad you found your wallet!! Good idea on Sweetgreen, I’m going to try and make it! Also, I’m considering the Rock n’ Roll 1/2 as well — though tempted to just sign up for the full. I need to see how Marine Corps goes next week! Is that the one you are training for now?

HI Beth. BIG woo hoo about finding your wallet. I’ve “lost” my wallet too, only to find it in the glove compartment of my car – just after I’d cancelled all my bank cards and got a new driver’s licence. sigh. Good luck with the Leader training!!! You’ll be FANTASTIC!!!

I’m so glad you found your wallet! A shame that you had already gone to the DMV. I lost my camera a couple of weeks ago. It was a night out, so I called every bar we had been to, the party bus we rode on, and both of the cab companies in town since I had no clue when I lost it. It was on the bus! I am elated to have it back. I have to keep my eye on it when I am out!

I’m so happy you found your wallet! Even though you spent the time at the DMV it must be a big relief to know that no one is walking around with all of your personal info.
Also, I don’t know if I emailed you but I’ll definitely stop by Sweet Green next week 🙂

Do you have any advice on how to help another person make a lifestyle change? I know someone who has done WW on and off for years. She has temporary success with some weight loss when she first starts eating less, but still doesn’t want to work out or eat better foods, and thus hasn’t had any long term success.

That is a HARD one.. Unfortunately, there’s not much you can do or say to change someone else. You can set a good example obviously, but until the person in your life decides the time is right for her, it’s beyond your control. 🙁

I know for me there were many people (my mom especially) who tried to talk to me about losing weight and getting healthy and I got SO defensive and it was just a really unpleasant situation for all. Even though I knew I needed to do something, it wasn’t until I was able to make the decision for myself that I was really able to change.

    Hi Beth,
I’m glad you found your wallet! That must have been a huge relief.
I was wondering if I could please be included on the evite for your blogger/reader meet up. I don’t have my own blog, but I like reading healthy living/exercise blogs and live in the DC area.

I’d love to go to the meet-up, but it’s a bit far for me on a school night. 🙂
Man, that sweetgreen fro-yo is amazing though! I just had it for the first time on Sunday (at the same one in Dupont!) And GET the roasted squash on top- soooo good!

Congratulations on finding the wallet. While traveling for work one time I thought that I lost my wallet and id ….. how to get home. Since then whenever traveling I keep my passport and driver’s license separate so that I can at least get home. I also make a photo copy of the front and backs of all my important card so that I have the numbers and phone numbers to call!!
