Factual Friday

Before I get into the facts, my heart is heavy today because my nephew Harper is the hospital. He was having some breathing problems yesterday, so my sister and her husband took him to the ER and they admitted him and kept him overnight for observation. I really do believe in the power of positive thinking and prayer in numbers, so please send positive thoughts and prayers for Harper, my sister Wendy, and brother-in-law Justin. They’ve already been through so much and my heart aches for them.

So I have a bunch of really random facts to share with you guys. Rather than writing a cohesive post, you’re getting a list for today! Here goes.

1.) I am loving my post dropping out of the marathon workout schedule. It feels so great to be cross training and doing what I feel like rather than what I “have” to. It’s also great to have workouts that are under an hour! You can see what I’ve been up to exercise-wise here.

Last night’s workout. 40 mins running (~4.0 miles) plus 10 mins walking.

2.) You can vote for Beth’s Journey as the top inspiring weight loss blog for Shape Magazine for two more weeks! The contest ends October 28th, so please click over to vote if you haven’t! You don’t have to register or provide an email address to vote. There is literally no way I will win, but it still feels like a big honor to be listed as one of the top 20!

3.) I tried a Salted Caramel Mocha yesterday from Starbucks for the first time and it was seriously the best drink I’ve ever had. The $5.14 price tag (slash the 290 calories for a grande with skim milk and no whip) will make it a once-in-a-very-long-while treat, but it was so delicious!

4.) I worked out with a personal trainer on Tuesday and it was SO HARD. We did two different three move circuits, each three times, and I was really, really sore on Wednesday. I have recovered since then, but I wish I could afford to do personal training more! This session I got free when I joined.

5.) I got caught in a torrential downpour yesterday after my Weight Watchers meeting and on my way to the gym. My shoes were literally FULL of water when I finally got into the gym and I had to empty them into the sink! Yuck!

6.) I am SO glad I decided to do the regional membership for Washington Sports Club. Originally I was going to join just one of the locations because it was cheaper to do that, but then I found a deal for GWU alumni for the regional membership, so I went with it. I’ve been to three different ones a few times each and am so happy!

7.) I LOVED spinning. It was such a great, fast paced workout and the music made it go by so quickly. I have only taken the one class but want to go back for another one soon, as well as try other classes at the gym!

8.) I am running the Boo! Run for Life 10k on Sunday, and would LOVE love love to finish in under an hour. That was my goal at my last 10k, and I finished in 1 hour 1 second, no joke.

9.) I went to Rustico with Alexa for dinner this week, and it was AMAZING. We shared three things – carrot hummus (which was so light, fluffy, and heavenly), a butternut squash salad, and a chickpea crust white pizza. I hiiiiiiiighly recommend the restaurant if you’ve never been!

10.) I am now working on a task force for recruiting employees for Weight Watchers. If you’re within 10 lbs of your goal and/or a Lifetime member, email me if you want to know more!! bethsjourneyblog at gmail dot com. It’s a great gig to keep you on track and I’d love to talk to anyone who is interested in the area!

11.) I am heavily leaning towards doing the reader get together on Tuesday the 25th or Wednesday the 26th of October. I’m thinking a low key dinner/frozen yogurt get together at Sweet Green in Dupont from 6-8pm. I’ll confirm once its closer to the date but let me know if either of those days work for you!!

12.) I go to BLS (leadership training) for Weight Watchers in Chicago next Thursday!! The training is three days (Thursday, Friday, Saturday) and I am SOOOOOOO excited! I promise to dish all (or as much as I can!) once I’m back.

Now share a random fact with me about you… and go!

Yay, SO glad you loved spinning – it’s my fave class to take at the gym!!!!! My gym in Alexandria has a spinning boot camp class and I LOVE it – 30 mins spin + 30 mins boot camp = one heck of a workout!

I vote for the Tuesday get together at Sweet Green!!!

Sending prayers for Harper and your family. My little one (4 yo) was hospitalized after he had problems breathing. What I thought was a cold related cough was a full blown asthma attack x 100 due to an allergic reaction to pollen. We never though he was allergic and it was so scary. Thankfully, the wonderful doctors, nurses, and respiratory therapists were on it and able to control it. We spent a total of 5 days in the hospital and 3 were in the PICU.

Obviously without knowing what triggered his breathing issues, I can’t compare the two incidents but it may be worthwhile for your sister to discuss asthma/allergies with the medical team if they haven’t already done so.

    Prayer x infinity.

Hi Jenny! Harper was born in September 2010, 4 months premature. He was a twin and weighed 1lb 3oz at birth and unfortunately his twin, Tristan, only made it 26 days. He was in the NICU for 133 days and since he was born so so early, his lungs are very weak. He was on oxygen for several months after he got home from the NICU. They found out he currently has a virus and they have him back on oxygen, but it seems like he’ll be OK. It’s just stressful. I appreciate the input though!

Hi Penny! It looks like its going to be Tuesday.

And trust me, I’m totally with you on the cocktails but for this first one I’m going to keep it lower key. If it goes well though, I’d love to set up a happy hour for next time!

My random fact: I just rehauled my blog! I’m so excited – it’s been a project on my to-do list since before Fitbloggin’!

I really want to try spinning. I’ve been loving biking outdoors this fall and am hoping to find somewhere to spin indoors when the weather turns.

I will pray for Harper and your family! I too am a firm believer in the ‘power of prayer.’ Random fact: I just semi-spontaneously bought a flight to New York City for New Years this year! A small group of us are going to visit a friend who just moved there in June! Can’t wait..it’s been my dream to watch the ball drop in Times Square for years!

I’m truly sorry to hear about your newphew. I’m sending positive, healthy thoughts to him!

I just read your post about going off your marathon training. I think that was an awesome thing and probably best for your health/well-being! I think when you don’t have your heart into something, then you don’t put your best effort and become careless (and risk injuring yourself)!

I LOOOOOOOOOVE the salted carmel mocha. But you’re right, a once in a VERY long time treat. But a worth while calorie splurge.

Random fact: I have sailed around the world before!

Random fact… I’m running a half marathon in February, and haven’t really run… ever. But my body is adjusting quickly, and I have a good friend doing it with me. It’s fun, and we kick each others’ butts. And I’m getting up to go run 3 miles at 5:45 in the morning tomorrow, so I’m wondering why I’m not in bed…

I am obsessed with the Salted Caramel Mocha…. and I found a way to make it lighter.

Tall, Nonfat, No Whip, 1 pump mocha, 2 pumps toffee nut for an estimated 160 cals. It’s still not ideal, but that cuts out a lot of calories and it’s still completely delish!

Oh, yeah! Now I know what I’m getting with the second half of the Starbucks gift card in my wallet; and how I’m getting it. Thank you much! 🙂

One of my goals around Weight Watchers is to become a group leader. I have a long, LONG way to go before that can happen, but it will. So excited to hear about (as much of) your training (as you can share).

Random fact: I’ve written – and produced – four plays; one full-length, and three shorts.

I had a Salted Caramel Mocha this morning and I agree. I LOVE SB’s Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate but the Mocha is better because it isn’t as sweet. I could drink one every day if it wasn’t so expensive.
