Back At It: Menu Plan + Weekly Goals

Helloooo!! Rather than apologize for my absence (minus my little pop in last week to share my US News + World Report Video), let me share some random updates about what’s been going on in my life lately.

After preaching about trying to break free from the power food has held over me all my life, I’ve started struggling again. The scale has been moving in the wrong direction (though I honestly haven’t weighed myself in a while and am going more by clothes/looking in the mirror) and I’ve been eating out way too much, not exercising enough, and not prioritizing my health. This has got to stop before it gets too out of hand.

I have a DietBet starting one week from today – here is the link. It’s a $25 buy in, and everyone who hits the 4% goal will split the pot. I’ve signed up and paid to play and am hoping the extra motivation ($$$) helps me stick with it! Who wants to join me?!

To help get myself back on track, I started this week with a meal plan for the first time in months, and it feels really good to be back in the kitchen. Here’s the plan:

Breakfast Lunch Dinner Snacks
Monday Toasted english muffin w/cottage cheese + an apple Turkey Chili with cheese + sour cream (made on Sunday) Crockpot salsa chicken (made Sunday) over a salad with spinach, tomatoes, corn, cheese, tortillas Shredded wheat w/skim milk + a banana
Tuesday Toasted English muffin w/peanut butter and banana Turkey Chili with cheese + sour cream (made on Sunday) Chicken tacos in corn tortillas with side salad String Cheese + apple
Wednesday Grapefruit with greek yogurt + shredded wheat Salsa Chicken Tacos Sesame Tofu (homemade) with brown rice + veggies cottage cheese + banana
Thursday Egg + veggie scramble with whole wheat toast Turkey Chili with cheese + sour cream (made on Sunday) Out for Restaurant Week Green Smoothie
Friday soft boiled eggs with english muffin Leftover sesame tofu over greens  TBD  Shredded wheat w/skim milk

Besides getting back to the kitchen, I also rejoined the gym this weekend and plan to get back into exercise and specifically the classes offered through my membership!

This week’s goals:

  1. Workout 3x+ this week
  2. Eat out only once this week
  3. Limit to 2 glasses of wine
  4. Drink 3+ glasses of water during the day
  5. Get in bed by 11pm every day.

I also found out recently that I got selected to speak for FitBloggin’ 14! I have been so busy that I totally forgot I even submitted a proposal, so it was a surprise to get the approval email! I’ll be leading a small group discussion called “Breaking Free: Life After Goal” to talk about moving into the world of maintenance, how it affects your blog writing and relationship with your readers, how your approach to writing/eating/etc changes. I’m really excited to talk about my own experience and help facilitate other people sharing their own!

What is one goal you have for this week?

My goal is to get my butt to the gym at least 3 times this week. It’s a busy one but I need to make it happen!

I’m looking forward to the DietBet game. Thanks for hosting. My goal for the week is to walk my dog for 30+ minutes every evening.

It’s great to see you back! I’ve been trying to set mini goals each day as I’ve been feeling like my life is out of control. My consistent goal this week is to be in bed by 11pm each night. Otherwise I’ve been setting daily goals re: exercise, organization, tasks and am finding the small “to do” lists really helpful.

I don’t really set weekly goals, but I do do monthly ones. (I did sort of do a weekly one this week though- to weigh in at or below 188 on Sunday.) My monthly goals aren’t all food or fitness related- I want to read 9 books this month, walk 20 miles, cook 2 new recipes, pay off 5% of my total debt. No matter what the mini-goals are, they really help you stay focused!

Wondering if you’ve had success with DietBet before (actually met your 4% goal)? It sounds interesting and I might join you, the accountability and motivation to not lose my money invested in the bet could be great!

Hey Tristan! I’ve done a couple of DietBets and have won some and lost some. Even when I didn’t hit my 4% goal, I still made a good amount of progress during the 4 weeks and it felt worth it. But that’s just me. 🙂

That was the same conclusion I came to Beth, thank you!

Beth – so glad you are back with you fans! I have some simple goals this week: drink more water and try to stick to WW Simple Start for 5 days in a row – this is day 3. I was in DC right before Thanksgiving and I’ve got to tell you Beth, I gained a new appreciation for how difficult it is in that town to deal with food. Seems like there is a real culture of eating out, meeting friends in restaurants, great take-out options, etc. Walking around to get places is wonderful but you pass all those great eating options along the way…ugh!

Ooh I like your menu plan for this week. Mind if I steal it? My one goal for this week is to actually go to the gym more than once or at the very least ride my bike twice.

    Hi there,
I have a cool tip for a bet, I set goals with my friends but rather than a simple yes or no goal – we set min, target and crazy goals. (we checked each others to make sure it was fair). You get certain points for each and the person with the most points wins.
Really cool all encompasing way of doing your weekly goals and challange with someone. Hope that helps – really pushed me to get going after a long break 🙂
