The Week of Half Marathon: Menu Plan

This weekend, I went to the movies for the first time in ages and it was so fun! On Friday night, I went and saw Wanderlust and was pleasantly surprised. I had heard mixed reviews, but I really liked it and found myself laughing a lot throughout the entire movie. The one thing I will warn you about is there is a lot of full frontal nudity – especially male – so prepare yourself if you do decide to go see it so you’re not caught as off guard as I was! Unfortunately, the male nudity didn’t include Paul Rudd, who I find absolutely hysterical and really made the movie for me. Maybe next time!

The whole point of going to the movies on Friday (besides the fact that, you know, I like to go) was so I could get up Saturday morning and do my 11-12 mile run. When I woke up though, even after getting a great nights sleep and not drinking a sip of alcohol the night before, the last thing on earth I wanted to do was go run that far. I battled in my head for a little while, but decided to instead run (a half a mile) to the gym, do 30 minutes of intervals on the stairmaster, and then do a full body strength training routine plus lots of stretching afterwards.

I was really proud of myself for not skipping the gym all together even though I didn’t feel up for what was on my schedule, because I tend to be very all or nothing about many things in life. That said, I feel extremely undertrained for the half marathon that is somehow already this coming Saturday (!!!), but more on that later this week.

I am trying to use this week to eat really clean and abstain from drinking any alcohol until after the half. I want to really focus on drinking a lot of water, getting a lot of sleep, and eating a very whole food/unprocessed diet so that I get myself in as good of condition as I can be for the half. Here’s what’s on my menu for this week:

Monday Savory Oats, banana Smashed Kidney Bean Wrap w/salad + greek yogurt cottage cheese w/pineapple Eggs + Toast (post WW meeting)
Tuesday English Muffin w/PB + Banana Turkey Wrap w/salad Greek yogurt + grapefruit Curried Tofu Burgers w/steamed veggies
Wednesday Oatmeal w/cottage cheese Curried Tofu Burger + veggies over greens Banana mashed w/greek yogurt + stevia Chicken Sausage w/pasta + sauce
Thursday Whole Wheat Waffles w/pb + banana Leftover chicken sausage w/pasta Popcorn + grapefruit Spicy Lentil Tacos
Friday Savory Oats w/Spinach + Cheese Spicy Lentil Taco Salad Greek yogurt + grapefruit TBD – carbs and no alcohol

    Great meal plan! (and wow, I don’t think I could EVER run a half-marathon… so awesome job with THAT!) I noticed you’re putting Stevia in your Greek Yogurt. Is that any good? I’ve never tried it. Do you use it in coffee and other things too? I have settled into the Fage Greek Yogurts b/c they have about half the sugar of all the other brands out there (16g vs. regular 29g) and are really creamy and good.

      I really like Stevia and have been using it for a while. It’s supposedly more natural than other calorie-free sugar substitutes, but not a ton of research has been done so I try to use it sparingly. I actually have stevia drops in addition to the packets, so I do use it my coffee. I don’t always use it in greek yogurt, just sometimes if I want it a little sweeter. I looove Fage – I wish it was on sale more! I usually buy whichever brand it cheapest when I’m at the store.

    I check out your posts basically everyday Beth. I have now lost 8 lbs in the last couple weeks. So many food choices and I feel more energized to workout. I notice you do allot of the PBS with banana. Have you ever tried nutella!?? I love it on a banana before my main breakfast with coffee in the morning. Yummy. I only use a half serving, ok some days a full serving. Lol

      Hi Terry! Congratulations on all your success so far!! I actually have tried Nutella a while ago, but am allergic to hazelnuts, so I can’t have it! I have REALLY struggled with having dark chocolate PB in the house at times (eating the whole jar in a day or two), so Nutella might fall into that category for me, even if I wasn’t allergic! Good for you for being able to keep yourself to .5 – 1 servings at a time!

        Oh chocolate is my weakness also! But so far so good. I just try to krrp in my the consequences I’ll have to pay if I give in! ;/. I do a an amazing meal mixed with the 35 cal unsweetened almond milk n 1 cup of frozen berries along with my popcorn for dinner. Just enough as I have a good breakfast and lunch. Thanks for replying and good luck on your marathon. I’ve been walking or doing Pilates or yoga every day. Although a week ago I tried to do a light jog and my knee popped. Didnt hurt at first but a day later I’m still nurturing it with ice/heat and pain meds. Don’t know if I need to stay off it or what. I’m just aggravated 🙁

    Paul Rudd is my #1 celebrity crush… I am seriously in love with him. I want to see that movie- good to know that you thought it was funny! I rarely ever go to the movies, but I might go see if on a rainy day. I also want to see the new Jason Segal one coming out (with Ed Helms).
    Your weekly plan looks great- and I love mashed banana + Greek yogurt. Especially when you add a little vanilla and lemon extract… oh man. Total winning combination!

      My mom used to make mashed banana with sour cream + brown sugar for me when I was a kid, so it’s sort of a take on that! And I saw a preview for that Jason Segal one – it looks SO funny!

    You had me at “full frontal,” but lost me at “not Paul Rudd.” LOVE him, haha! Great job with not skipping the workout … it can be so easy to choose staying home when you’re tired and just not feeling it! But they say the only workouts we regret are the ones we don’t do – very true.

    I totally am the same way on the whole all or nothing thing, so I would consider the workout a huge victory instead of skipping! Haven’t been blogging in a long while but just started up again in order to get back on track and I forgot how refreshing it is to read your blog!

    I love Paul Rudd! He’s so funny! I’m also a huge Jason Bateman fan!

    I haven’t watched a movie in forever! I’d like to see Wanderlust and maybe 21 Jumpstreet.

      Ohh I love Jason Bateman too. I hadn’t been to the movies in AGES.. I think the last one I saw before Friday was The Help about 6 months ago. I want to get back into going semi-regularly though because I love it!

    I wrote on my blog about not caring enough about my finish time to run in gale force winds or driving rain, but now I am confronted with your plan not to drink at all this week. When you whiz past me on Saturday I will remember that you made it more of a prioirity than I did! Good luck!! 🙂
