Last night’s meet up was a success! It was so nice to put a name and a face to so many people who email me and leave comments on the blog – and know a lot about me!
We met up at sweetgreen in Dupont Circle, which is a cute little salad and frozen yogurt place where you order at a counter and can take it to go or sit down to eat. They focus on sourcing local and organic ingredients, and though not everything is local, they do have a board listing and highlighting all those ingredients.
Another really cool thing about sweetgreen is that EVERYTHING is compostable – down to the forks, napkins, and frozen yogurt containers. So cool! They also have lots of predesigned salads and wraps that you can order from, which I love.
But you can also make your own, which is what I ended up doing. Mixed greens, chickpeas, cucumbers, grapes, hearts of palm, balsamic, and a hunk of bread. It was really delicious and fresh tasting, and though I didn’t snap a pic, I absolutely loved the bowls they served the salad in! They were thin wooden bowls that were HUGE and that I have to find for my own apartment stat.
Several of us moved onto frozen yogurt after we were done our salads, myself included.
Tart fro-yo with raspberries, chocolate chips, and sliced almonds. Even though it was chilly out, it totally hit the spot. Yum.
There ended up being about 10 people in all, which was a good number because we all got to talk and know each other quite a bit.
Carissa, Kate, Kelly, Jennifer
Emily, Me, Olga, Cory, Penny
I didn’t do that great of a job of taking pictures, but a few more people ended up stopping by during the couple hours we were there, and we all had a really good time (I think!). It was so fun to meet everyone and it was really nice to automatically have so much in common and to talk about.
I think I’ll be organizing another one of these soon!
Have you ever met someone in person that you originally met on the internet?
PS: Go vote! You can vote once a day and no email address is required. It ends FRIDAY!

October 26, 2011 at 9:49 am (8 years ago)I’m so sorry to have missed it! Sitter fell through at the last minute and as adorable as I think my son is I’m not sure it would’ve been the best idea to bring a 4 year old!
I love sweetgreen! Their Chic-P salad is my favorite and I agree – I need those bowls too!

October 26, 2011 at 10:09 am (8 years ago)Hearing about your meetup makes me miss our chances to hang out earlier this year. Hope we get to hang out again sooner rather than later!
And that place sounds great. Love places like that.

And honestly, Megan @ Braise the Roof is one of the girls I now regularly run around with. Weird how that happens. But it’s really only awkward when people ask how we met… lol

October 26, 2011 at 10:37 am (8 years ago)I haven’t met up with anyone who has a blog that I read, but I did meet my now-husband after meeting him through match.com. I guess that counts as meeting someone through the internet. For several years I refused to sign up for any online dating site, but after going dateless for too long in a new city, decided to try it. Lucky for me (and him too)! Maybe the next time you come to NYC you could have a meetup here.

October 26, 2011 at 1:29 pm (8 years ago)I think online dating is such a great option for young professionals who are ready to settle down. It’s so hard to meet people other than those you work with once you’re in the “real world” – and I agree – that counts!

October 27, 2011 at 12:36 pm (8 years ago)I met my husband and father of my children on match.com, too! I also met sereral other “dates” before him, but he was/is by far the very best online meet-up ever.

October 26, 2011 at 10:57 am (8 years ago)I was just about to say I haven’t, but I actually have! I found a book club group on meetup.com and met up with everyone from there. It turned out great!

October 26, 2011 at 2:21 pm (8 years ago)I’m bummed I had to work late, too 🙁 Buuut, I really hope you do one again soon. It looks like you ladies had a great time!
Sweetgreen is one of my faves… I started recreating that October “Fall Apples” salad at home after realizing I was spending $40+/week just on lunch salads! It’s pretty much the best salad ever.
Hmm, I’ve met a few bloggers thanks to HLS ’11!

October 26, 2011 at 2:30 pm (8 years ago)I’ve met quite a few people from different things online, but only one other blogger (which was last weekend!). I wish I could have made it out- looks like you guys had a blast! I’ll be much more likely to be able to get away on a weekend, so I hope there’s another meet-up in the future.
And I LOVE sweet green. I got the October salad last time I was there.
And ya know what? I also really like that you can order a small or big yogurt, unlike the places where you fill you’re in- because you’re less likely to go overboard (on calories AND money!)

October 26, 2011 at 3:05 pm (8 years ago)I’ve met MANY people from the internet. Bloggers, MeetUp, etc. I think it is so much more common than people think.

This past year I met someone I’ve been friends with since 2007 after the death of my dog that I “met” on Dogster and then a lady and her family came through town that I’ve known from a weight loss site for 2 years. No bloggers yet though!

October 27, 2011 at 2:22 pm (8 years ago)Once, I was in line for the bathroom before a race, and this weird girl came up to me and said she read my blog. I thought she was cool, though, so we ended up splitting a room at a blogger conference a few months later, and she didn’t kill me in my sleep, so I guess she was cool.
