Ode to Tuesdays

Tuesdays used to be my least favorite day of the week by far. Mondays are a fresh start, Wednesdays mean you are half way through the work week, Thursday is Friday-eve/happy hour day, and Friday is the start of the weekend. So Tuesdays really left nothing to be desired for me, until the last few weeks.

When I first was asked to lead the Tuesday morning Weight Watchers meeting, I was a bit hesitant. Since it starts at 7:45am (7:30am starting next week and going forward), that means I have to be at the meeting at 7am and get up at 6am to be there on time. Because of that, there’s no way for me to squeeze in a morning workout on Tuesday, so I felt like I had a lot piled against me.

But, over the last several weeks, Tuesday has quickly become one of my favorite days of the week. Starting my day off with a Weight Watchers meeting leaves me feeling almost as energized as a morning workout does, and really helps me to focus. I mentioned this yesterday, but sometimes I feel like the meetings are more for me than the members, and I am really loving the Tuesday morning group.

This week’s topic is Moving More – and thinking about all the ways that we can work exercise into our lives. I opened up the meeting with people giving excuses why they can’t exercise, and then we talked about what would be on the list if we made a list of reasons why we SHOULD exercise. After that, we came up with some ideas to combat all the excuses we brainstormed, and overall, it was an awesome meeting.

It’s funny, because as a total coincidence, yesterday I didn’t have time for a legit workout. Monday mornings are never really an option for me because no matter how hard I try, I can’t get up to get in a workout before work. And last night, I had a 3 hour Weight Watchers training session, so I decided to do what I could. I walked to work, which is about 22 minutes, took a 20 minute walk over lunch, and then walked 20 minutes home, for a total of one hour of walking.

I posted it on my Facebook page, and someone commented (Hi Barbara!) saying that that’s exactly what they talked about this week at Weight Watchers, and I hadn’t even made the connection! You can guess which story I shared about myself today.

After leaving the meeting to walk to my desk job, I had a bounce in my step, and I’m sure you can hear it from the tone of this post – I am in a much better place than yesterday. I feel refreshed, reenergized, and refocused. And, excited about tonight’s 5 mile run home!

    I wasn’t going to walk this morning,.. It’s cloudy and wet feeling out. Looks like rain,..but I realize how much better I feel after I do walk. So after I get done with this post I’m on my way out the door. Also first week ended Monday and down 6 lbs, what a way to start the week yahooo!! 😉

    I love the ol’ spring in your step feeling! Initially I would say that Friday is my favorite work day, but truthfully, it might be Thursday. Just the anticipation of a weekend is enough to be really excited. Plus, I love the sitcoms on Thursday night, so it’s a veg on the couch night for me. This weekend I have 3 girlfriends coming to town and we’re all staying in a fun hotel, so I’m extra excited this Thursday.

    LOVE the energy! Great way to sneak in walking all through the day. You rock, Beth! Fridays are an obvy favorite, but I’d say Thursdays are pretty good too – Friday eve if you will!

    Sounds like an awesome meeting! Any chance you will share some of the ideas that were brainstormed? And my favorite day of the work week is Wednesday, the day my favorite TV shows are on. 🙂

    Friday! I love Fridays, something about knowing the work week is done and that I get to spend the next 2 days with my husband and dogs makes me giddy!

    I kinda love/hate Tuesdays. I have to wake up at 4:30 to go teach spin class, but it’s the only day of the work week that I work out BEFORE work (I have to be at work at 7 and will only get up that early if I’m being paid to do so!). Getting up sucks, but I love teaching spin class so much, and when I’m there, I’m not even thinking about being tired. I also love the fact that my workout is done for the day by 6:15 am. And, I get a deep tissue massage every other Tuesday, which obviously rules.
    Fridays are great too of course, because I get to go home and do nothing after the gym- no packing of breakfast or lunch and just a lot of couch time. 🙂

    I absolutely detest Tuesdays. I have to be at work at the ungodly hour of 5 a.m. and its a long day. Only thing to look forward to is going home early.

    On a positive note, glad to hear your WW meetings are going well. You are a natural leader =)

    When I had a desk job, i felt the same way about Tuesdays. Now, I’m a stay at home mom and seriously every day is the same, and I’m really trying to tell myself that every morning is a chance for a fresh start 🙂

    A few weeks ago, on calorie counts website, they talked about a book where the authors motto was “No excuses” – Just like you have to go to work, make it so that you have to workout to some degree. I ended up buying the book and reading it and really tried to implement it in my life.

    When I was working a 15 hour day, I brought my gym bag to work and dinner and just squeezed it in. When I was tired or run down, I pushed myself to do it.

    I have made a million excuses in the past and this year, I wasn’t.

    It is not easy but sometimes, you have to dig deep and find that tiny ounce of energy within in and do it. There are days when I am just blah and suck; when my legs feel like lead and my heart rate is not where it needs to be. But it’s something and that is all you can do. I wish my running progress was linear but it isn’t- just like my weight loss isn’t

    I am a very black and white person who is searching for being content with the gray.

    I’ve always felt the same about Tuesdays when I was at a traditional job. Tuesdays were just something to trudge through. 🙂

    Now Fridays are my fave because the Mr teleworks that day and it’s like getting a 3 day weekend!

    Since my meeting on Monday, I’ve walked Monday and Tuesday night 2.5 miles each night for a total of 5 miles. Tonight I’m gonna try and get to the gym since I know I won’t be able to do anything tomorrow night (hair appointment) and Friday nights are almost always a wash.

    I’d just like to say that as much (and often) as I grumble about getting up at 0-dark-hundred to be a receptionist at your Tuesday WW meeting, thanks to you, Tuesdays are now one of my favorite days, too! Thanks for sharing your blog – you are inspiring to women of all ages and body types!
