[Most of My] Bags Are Packed…

I’m ready to goooooooo. I’m standing here outside your doooooooor. I hate to wake you up to say gooodbyeeeeeeeeee…

Oh wait, where was I? Oh right. PACKING! Yuck.

Even though I loathe packing, especially for eight days straight, I’m almost done!! I plan to get together the last few things I need first thing tomorrow but am about 90% done as of now.

I always make sure to make a list so I don’t forget the essentials…

Though despite the list, I always manage to forget something important. Luckily I’m going to Charlotte, and not somewhere remote where I can’t pick up essentials in case I do forget something!

Whenever I take a work trip, there’s always a few key things that I make sure to bring with me to keep as on track as possible.

First, a refillable water bottle.

Staying hydrated is SO, so important, especially when you’re on your feet all day and breathing in the dry hotel air. There are almost always water stations/pitchers of ice water everywhere during a conference, so I make sure to have my own bottle and drink 2-4 of those a day. If there’s one healthy thing I do have control of during a business trip, it’s making sure to drink enough water.

Second, snacks!

I hate to be somewhere without a snack on hand, especially since a lot of the meals aren’t very healthy at the conferences. It’s nice to have a back up or something to supplement a meal if the options are limited and I find myself hungry, rather than reaching for (ten) cookies. I’m also planning on seeking out a grocery store close to the hotel to stock up on some more non perishables once I’m there, but I always like to bring some backups just in case.

Third, reading materials!

I’m currently reading Catching Fire, the second book in the Hunger Games series, and will move onto Carrots ‘N Cake as soon as I’m done, which I’m also super excited about! The publisher sent me a review copy, so I’ll be sure to do a full review once I’ve made it through (slash started) the book.  Reading materials are more for mental health than anything, because I get a lot less frustrated with waiting while traveling when I have a good book to focus on rather than my lack of patience.

Fourth, workout clothes!!

Even with work trips when I know my workout time is extremely limited/possibly nonexistent, I always bring at least enough workout clothes for a few times at the gym. Even if I can just squeeze in a few quickie workouts or random moves in my hotel room with no one looking, it makes me feel better since a lot of times the eating isn’t the healthiest at these conferences. I always make sure to think it through and bring everything I need, so this included (in addition to capris, shirts, sports bras, socks, and sneakers), my Garmin, my Camelbak, and several Vanilla Bean GUs in anticipation of Saturday’s glorious 16 miler. No sarcasm here.

If you want some more ideas, check out my top tips for staying healthy during business  trips – a post I often review while getting ready for one of these trips!

What’s the most essential thing you bring on business/pleasure trips with you to keep you on track?

PS: Awesome breakfast recipe coming tomorrow! Stay tuned. =)

You’d better hope you’re close to a bookstore because as soon as you finish Catching Fire, you’re not going to want to wait to read Mockingjay! Just a tip from a Hunger Games addict. 😉

    Have a fun trip!

You should. I agree. I got really twitchy between books two and three.

I always make a list too. My fiance was making fun of me last time we took a trip but then he forgot stuff and I was the one laughing!

I’ve definitely worked out on business trips. It’s great when you travel with people who also enjoy working out. One of the guys always just wants to drink excessively on the company’s dime. Oy!

There’s a few others who like to work out, but the trouble is our hours are literally from 6am to 10pm ish starting on Saturday.. yikes!

I always bring my Core Fusion DVDs and Luna Bars! I traveled to some rather remote places this summer for work and found that hotel “gyms,” even at nice hotels, can be very scant. Looks like you’re ready to go. Have a great trip!

I think the hotel I’m staying at has a pretty swanky gym, including an indoor heated lap pool (!!!). Plus, my main workouts will be running outside, otherwise workout DVDs are a great idea!

Yup, better bring Mockingjay. That’s exactly why I asked for a Kindle for Christmas. I was tired of making room for 2-4 or more books for each trip 😉 Though your schedule may leave little time for reading, I just know I hate to be bored.

I just put it in my suitcase. 🙂 You know I actually have an E-Reader but I really like having the books themselves – I don’t like it!!

I’m with on bringing a water bottle + snacks. Other than that, the only essential thing I need are my glasses/contacts case. Anything else I can buy if I forget it (or pack the wrong thing). As long as I have my glasses I’m good 🙂

    Have a great trip!

I am awful at packing and no matter how many lists I make I end up forgetting half of what I need. One time I didn’t pack any underwear and left the house with my bathing suit on. Not my finest moment! But I will second Holly’s comment about the glasses/contacts. Have a good trip!

I bought a Camelbak bottle that has a built-in filter and brought it everywhere this summer when I traveled. It’s really useful because you can fill it up anywhere, and it filters the water so it tastes good (very useful when you have icky city water).

I’m a self proclaimed professional traveler…..ok not really but I do feel like a live on the road. My boyfriend and I are in a long distance relationship (but only for two more weeks!!!) and I travel for work at least once a month for a week or longer. I just make sure I always have something that makes me feel at home…for me its my stuffed animal I still sleep with…embarrassing? kinda, but I don’t really care. That and my phone charger. If I forget either it’s always a rough week.

Hey Beth!! I live in Charlotte so if you need any ideas on where to run let me know. The Queen City is really runner friendly. 🙂 And if you are staying downtown there is a Trader Joes super close.

Oooh, so jealous that you have Catching Fire in your possession! I can’t wait to read it, but I am too cheap to buy it so I am patiently waiting to get it from the library. Loved The Hunger Games.

Tina’s book is good too! Happy reading and have a good trip.
