Five for Friday: Good and Less So

Five random things to share for today, some good, some less so.

1.) GOOD

Tina reached out to me to let me know she was going to be in DC this week for a foodie tour and to see when we could squeeze some time in. The schedule for the tour is PACKED, so we ended up meeting up for a run yesterday morning before I had to go to work slash the tour started with Leslie, who is also visiting DC for the tour.

Leslie, Tina, Me

We had a really great 5 mile run around the monuments. A lot of times I have trouble running with other people, but yesterday went really smooth and the miles actually flew by as we caught up.

2.) LESS SO

I failed to mention this, but I majorly failed on the exercise front with all my business travels. I did manage to get the sixteen miler in toward the beginning of my trip to Charlotte, which was a big success, but after that, I didn’t run, or do any form of exercise for that matter, for EIGHT full days. Day 9 was my last day in New Orleans, and I started it off with 6 miles on the treadmill, so that’s good at least. But eight days off at peak marathon training is not recommended nor ideal.

3.) GOOD

I got to dine at Floriana last night and it was AMAZING. Full review to come, but they have introduced a new menu and a new chef, and I got to have dinner on the house to check out the changes and it was pretty incredible. Plus, I got to catch up with my friend Amber who I hadn’t seen in a few weeks! Win win!

4.) LESS SO

Healthy eating was heavily on the back burner during my work travels to Charlotte and New Orleans over the last two weeks. Even though I know all the tricks to eating healthy on business trips, come conference time when things are hectic and it’s always go-go-go, I stray so far from my normal habits and I really really struggle with staying on track. Couple this with #2, and you’ll understand why I’m having trouble with my weight being up a few pounds, yet again. I have to weigh in for Weight Watchers by today since it’s the end of the month, and I know I’m over goal by a bit, so I’m not even sure what the repercussions are since I’m an employee. Sigh.

5.) GOOD

Always good to end on a positive note, eh? This is my first weekend home in three weekends, and I have NO PLANS. Well you know, besides trying to run 18 miles. I just mean I don’t have to go anywhere and can actually take some time to decorate and enjoy the new place. I’m so excited to stay put and RELAX and not travel. Yay!

Let’s stick with all GOODS for you guys. Share with me something good going on this week/weekend!

Good: I am going out to the NCR for a 20 mile bike ride with my bestie, to start preparing for my first organized ride coming up on the 23rd of this month! Super excited to get on my bike and get to try out my snazzy new padded bike pants.

Good: (or at least I am telling myself that) I have tons of homework to do. This is good because it means I am in grad school, even though it’s so hard I want to barf. But it is a growth experience. Gah!

I am a huge Nebraska football fan, and we are playing our first game in the Big 10 conference against Wisconsin on Sat. (we are ranked #8 and #7 respectively so hopefully it’s a good game). It’s a big game and I’m really excited!! LOL I wish I could go to Madison, WI for the game, but alas, didn’t work out.

Oh, and I’m always geeked up to go grocery shopping. 🙂 Obv I am a dork.

Good luck with that run this weekend – if it helps, we’re all rooting for you!!

As my mom always says, “you do what you can when you can”. Sounds like you are back on the right track with a 6-miler under your belt. Good luck with the weigh-in. Hopefully they are understanding considering what the program is all about and know that people just have ebbs and flows. You got this girl!

Good: I am running my first organized race this weekend! I completed the C25K program a few weeks ago, and my friends and I are doing an 8K tomorrow 🙂 So excited!! I’m new to running, so this is a big deal to me. Our goal is to just run the whole thing without stopping to walk. Mind over body!!

Good: Going to a 31 party on Sunday. Women, food and purses/bags . . . what could be bad about that??

Have a great weekend home, and good luck on your 18 miler!

This weekend I too will be running, although I’m in taper mode already! Tomorrow we have a charity event / book reading for an organization that Olivier does a lot of work for. It’s the only bilingual adult high school in the Midwest and gives people a second chance to get a REAL high school diploma (not just GED). Other than that, I’m going to maybe go to the driving range on Sunday and spend some time in my garden since the next few weeks are so busy. Next weekend is marathon weekend, the weekend after that is doug & mavis’ wedding (!!!) and then YOU’LL BE HERE IN CHI CITY!!! I can’t wait!

    Beth,
I just wanted you to know that yesterday I had trouble choosing between two magazines at the drug store. I finally just chose one, and low and behold guess who was featured?? You!! It was such a pleasant surprise to see your story (it was the ‘twinkie queen’ one, sigh) but I just wanted to tell you don’t lose your stride! You are a constant inspiration to me in my own journey to live a healthy life.

My good for yesterday was that it was Friday! Enough said 🙂

I was wondering if you had any tips for actually getting out to run in the morning? I switched schedules at work and need to start getting my runs in during the AM before work. Last week was kind of a fail (I can commiserate with you on the lack of exercise this past week). Thanks!
